Time For A Pajama Funeral

Yesterday I had a funeral for my favorite lounging pajamas. David bought me these comfy pajamas for Christmas the first year we were married . They are super comfortable and if they are clean they are always my pajama of choice. In recent months their wear has been way too obvious, the seems in the legs had come out, there are multiple holes, the drawstring is out and elastic is now visible. A few weeks ago I decided they were done, yesterday they made it to the trash.

Before trashing I took a picture of them to document their wear. These pants have been great travel companions and have visited many places with me including: Yellowstone, Reno, Sacramento, the Bay, Phoenix, Atlanta, New Orleans, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Salt Lake City, and Yosemite...just to name a few.

Goodbye red pajamas, you will be missed.

Baby Brooke

Brooke's real name isn't Brooke, it's Baby Brooke. Thats what we have all been calling her so that Sydney would "get it". For weeks I have been saying to Sydney "Where's Baby Brooke's clothes", "Show me Baby Brooke's diapers". Sydney always says "Baby Brooke" now we all say it, and I think it's hilarious, don't want it to stick forever, but for now it's funny.

Headed to Post Partum

This is the conversation between the nurse, patient care assistant and myself on the way from Labor and Delivery to Post Partum:

Nurse: I've been fertilizing at your farm but everything still seems to keep dying
PCA: I have been so busy that I have had a couple of crops die lately
Nurse: Well, when I know I have a busy weekend or something I just plant 3 day crops and then I don;t have a problem
KT (interjects): Yep, thats what I do, I planted some cabbage this morning so I have four days before they die
Nurse (excited): You farm too?
KT: Yes, I actually just harvested some rice about 3 hours ago.
PCT: Do you have a stable yet?
KT: I'm working on it but it's not done. I need a bunch of harnesses
Nurse: Same here, I need 4 or 5 and some wooden planks
Mom: Oh, I hope we just found some new neighbors.

Brooke Elaine Thomas

Cannon is not here, Katherine, is not here, but Brooke is here and she is doing great!

Statistics: Born 2/21/10 Weighed 8.36 pounds, 22 inches long. We are spending are postpartum time in room 122.



















What a different experience than Sydney's birth. This is the first time the Evans crew didn't take over the waiting room for hours. Becca and Mom were sick (Mom made it for the birth, Becca didn't and we missed her terribly!) and because the labor was so odd nobody was here hanging out at all. Actually, now that I am thinking back on this I am kind of surprised since it was a Sunday but I didn't see any of the boys until after she was born. Besides David and I, Mom, Rachel and Laura (barely made it) were present for her birth. Rachel and Laura did a great job of taking pictures. I'll post a picture of mom in her mask later in the week.

For those interested, here are the labor details:

*Water broke at 2:40AM at home
*Went to the hospital, barely had any contractions all day
*Pitocin was given at 2:00PM
*Contractions started being painful around 3:45PM
*Epidural was given between 5:00 and 5:30PM
*She was born at 6:20PM

Mr Huntington

I would like to introduce you to Mr Huntington (of Huntington Memorial Hospital). He has welcomed me into his home and allowed me to take a nap in one of his comfortable beds.

I am expecting one of his servants to wake me up at 2 pm for some labor inducing drugs should nothing else occur before then (water broke on its own at 3:00 am this morning).

The "Gack"

Sydney sleeps with a ton of stuffed animals. She is always asking to have "Dumbo", "Lion", "Mickey", "Doggy" etc to be thrown into the crib with her. The other day David comes in the family room after putting her down and says "For future reference, that monkey with both arms up in the air is known as the Gack".

James Goes To Second Round in CIF

James scored in the second overtime to give MHS the win in their first playoff game of the 2009-2010 season. Read the article in the Pasadena Star News

Two interesting notes:

(1) They had one at the time James scored (sudden death) but the refferees didn't know it was sudden death. The other team scored and it wasn't until they were preparing for penalty kicks that someone whipped out their Blackberry and showed the rules to the referres. NICE!

(2) James scored with 3 minutes and 22 seconds left in the overtime period

Serial Numbers: (As defined at about.com) A serial number is a unique, identifying number or group of numbers and letters assigned to an individual piece of hardware or software. Mac Address: (As defined by Geek.com) A Media Access Control address or MAC address is a unique code assigned to every piece of hardware that connects to the Internet. Internet capable phones, Network Interface Cards for desktop or notebook computers, Wireless Access Cards, and even some memory cards are among the devices that are assigned MAC addresses.
When a manufacturer creates a network capable piece of hardware they will assign the MAC address which will usually begin with a code that is tied to the manufacturer. The MAC address will be unique to every device, even two devices of the same type.

Unique Identifier: (As defined by Intertwingly.net) A unique identifier is a piece of data that unequivocally identifies something. On the Web, a URI is used as a unique identifier. A 128-bit GloballyUniqueIdentifier (GUID) is also common for software.

My 2008 Birthday Gift (From Laura)

A few days ago, I posted about how the focal point of my office was the painting Laura got me for my birthday in 2008. In June 2008, we were on the pier in San Clemente and there was an artist named Paul Gavin selling paintings of San Clemente. I told Laura, "These paintings remind me of my childhood summers in San Clemente, one day I will have one of these paintings". Notice the painting on the right hand side behind us.


















Laura remembered how much i liked them and contacted Paul Gavin to get me a painting for my birthday. The most amazing part of this story is that Paul Gavin remembered us! He remembered that I had a baby (Sydney was 3 months) and remembered how much we liked the paintings. So on my 35th birthday, Laura surprised me with an original Paul Gavin painting. It is gorgeous and it makes me very happy every time i see it!!!!

My Little Jack Bauer

Was trying to pull up my toenails tonight and couldn't have been happier when I yelled "Ouch" or "That hurt, Stop it". When she was done with me she moved onto David.

Don't Give Anything Away....

James has been complaining for some time that mom always gives out spoiler type hints and talks vaguely about what happened on a particular TV show before James has had a chance to watch. His complaining has been so vocal that he freaks out even if mom says the name of the show and whether it was good or not before James has had an opportunity to see it.

Today I was able to experience part of this first hand. Here's how the conversation went:

Mom: MSNBC is my homepage, I keep seeing who the medal winners are before they come on air
Kim: I would hate that, if I know who won there is no point in watching
Mom: The US did good on something they weren't supposed to be good at
Kim: Huh?
Mom: Something they weren't supposed to win at it
Kim: What was that
Mom: Well, I'm not going to tell you anymore
Kim: This is going on the blog

The New Office

We have been working on swapping Sydney's room with the old office/guest room. The guest room is no more, the most wonderful guest bed in the world has become Joshua's bed and he loves it. If you ask him what the coolest thing is about having his big bed he will tell you that "It's cool that he keeps puzzles under his bed"-LOL. I hated giving up that bed but it would have taken up the whole room in the new office.

I am very happy with the new office thus far. Everything that has been put in there has been very well organized and labeled. The only things left to do is to replace the ladybug closet door knobs and swap the two closets. The closet swapping is in progress but there is alot of crap in the closet in Sydney's room. That will be an after-Brooke-arrives project.

The office has taken on a beach theme (the old office had this as well) and the focal point is the gorgeous painting Laura gave me for my birthday last year. (I will post another blog on this because it deserves it's own blog). The organization has already made me more productive when working in there. It is currently a little oasis, lets hope it stays that way.Here are a few pictures:

Sydney's First Trip To The Snow

Diners, Drive-Ins And Dives

Last week we went to a restaurant that was featured on Guy Fieri's Diners, Drive-In's and Dive's. The restaurant is in Eagle Rock and is called the Oinkster. We tried the burgers, pastrami and pulled pork sandwich. I think the pulled pork was the best, the pastrami (what I ordered) left me with horrific heartburn and I now advise ZERO pastrami during pregnancy.

David thought the pastrami was a little dry, I thought it was good but Tops has probably double the pastrami in the sandwich itself (probably a good thing considering the heartburn observation above). Overall, everyone seemed to like it and we would suggest a trip if you are in the area.

I thought I was screwed when I saw this spot, then I read the sign. Nice timing, probably the last opportunity I had to use it too.

Survivor and Cleaning Closets

We have spent the last month swapping the guest room/office with Sydney's room. Sydney's new room will soon be Sydney and Brooke's room and the guest room/office is now just the office.

We are having to pair down any clutter and I have been throwing out alot of stuff. Tonight, I ran onto a snack of cards I had been saving since 2006. As I went through them, I couldn't believe that I saved some of this stuff. One particular card, caught my eye, why in the world would I have saved the CHW IT Christmas card from 2006? I was however amused by the card. Today, season 20 of Survivor starts. The card reminds me of the Survivor slogan which is: Outwit, Outplay, Outlast. I look at this and I certainly can tell who the Sole Survivor is..................next stop the Amazing Race with her BFF.

So It's Wednesday......A PG Update

And there is no baby Brooke, no baby Cannon and no baby Katherine here yet.

What we know:

*She is just about the size of Sydney at birth (7.5 pounds now, Sydney was 7.6)
*She is head down and dropped low
*I am 4 pounds above the weight I was when Sydney was born
*She will be here sometime in the next week and a half

Tonight, David picked up "Tops" for dinner. When going through the bag I noticed they were now offering two types of Ketchup. Neither was Heinz, but it did make me think of Tricia and Ketchup.

38 Weeks: A PG Update

This morning I had non-painful contractions every 2-3 minutes for about 4 hours. This is how labor with Sydney started so i figured that by tonight we would be getting this show on the road. Around 11:00am, they stopped being regular and while they continue, we continue to wait. I personally think she will be born on Wednesday and that will work great except for the fact that everybody knows that while Monday's child is fair of face, Wednesday's child is full of woe. Nothing good about that.

I worked just about all day today and am planning on working tomorrow as well. It may not be as easy as it was today though since I do most of my work through my cell phone. Tonight, David had two items that were critical on his plate: (1) Get the newborn clothes out of the attic so we could throw them in the wash (2) Get the carrier and base down from the attic so that she could come home from the hospital with us. At around 8:20, his two tasks were diverted for an urgent request. What could be more urgent that the two above items? How about a brand new Droid that had fallen into the bathtub full of water.....yup, and it wasn't a splish splash, it was fully submerged. Last text was to Queen B.

So now, the 38 week pregnant, Hot IT Chick, that doesn't have a home phone has no cell phone. (David is blow drying the phone, this worked once when I had a mishap in Phoenix with the Pearl, I am holding out a wee bit of hope)

Oh by the way, her name is no longer Katherine, we are 99.9% sure it is Brooke and no Brooke was not on the list.

Is Chai The Enemy?

I managed to lost 2 pounds in the six weeks while I was on bedrest (during the holidays). Since being off bedrest and returning to my daily Chai ritual (2 weeks ago) I have apparently gained 6 pounds. Mom had said a few weeks ago, my non-weight gain was probably attributed to my lack of Chai drinking. Today, in a conversation with Jane, she inferred the same thing. So I ask you, is Chai the enemy?

Bob's Big Boy Is Back In Pasadena

Bob's Big Boy re-opened in Pasadena on January 22nd. Since then, I have visited twice and had an Original Big Boy (hold the mayo) both times. The Big Boy tasted like it always did and I was lucky enough to enjoy them with great company.
