Change Management

Because I am Alist Preffered on Southwest I get free Wi-Fi when I travel. On Friday I received the following error message and mentioned to the flight attendant just to see if people were complaining or it was just me. He said he wasn't sure if there was a problem or not. Oh well, I didn't use wi-fi. On Monday it happened again and I became concerned since it was three days later and the problem hasn't been fixed. I messaged Jane to determine if it was just me. She reported the same problem on her latest flight so I decided to mention it to the flight attendant and she told me to send an email. Touché.

By Monday afternoon there was a pop up notification stating that they had upgraded password requirements and you would need to change your password to use the wi-fi. No problem, I was up in minutes but it made me wonder about change management and the lack of communication/notification and the resulting confusion that had been going for at least 3.5 days. Crazy.

What's The Forecast?

A few weeks ago Laura and I were looking at the weather forecast. We both used our iphones, we both have Verizon, we both had yahoo delivering the weather. It was at the same time, same location with very different results. 

On one, Pasadena was 73, the other 90

On one, Sacramento was 90 and the other 75

Phoenix and Sacraemento were the same on both

Central Coast and Reno were different. 

I realize the forecast changes but to be 15 and 17 degrees off (at the same time) is pretty bad. And now I am re-looking at these pictures and look at how the times are off too? It says 3:52 for Pasadena on Laura's and 12:52 on mine. Sacramento is off on mine and right on hers. 

Best Phone Accessory

Laura bought this for me two years ago. I loved it from the beginning but I only used it for fun. Today, I was so tired of holding my phone that I thought I would plug it in and give it a try. I love it! I'm going to use it all day tomorrow, they can mock me at Northridge.

I may order a couple of these to use as gifts...... PS. I do own a Bluetooth headset ......I'm just put of habit using it.

Dell World-The Highlights

As an employee it was next to impossible (OK, impossible) for me to go to Dell World. As a customer I was lucky enough to get an invite this year. It was awesome! I have several good ideas for improvement that came out of the sessions and it was well worth the trip.

The iPhone 5

This article talks about how the iPhone 5 may be a big disappointment because Apple isnt getting the message that users want larger screens. "Apparantly", the iPhone 5 is going to be about the same size as the iPhone 4 and 4s. If this is true I will celebrate this and may do the opposite of this article and switch my Android (which I really love) to an iPhone. My HTC Incredible was nothing short of incredible but when I switched to the Incredible 2 (slightly bigger) I was terribly disapointed in the size. I have gotten used to it and I believe the iPhone is about this same size but I CRAVE a smaller phone, big is not always better!

I still miss my Blackberry Pearl-the best phone ever!

Wikipedia doesn't want to advertise but they need money:

When I founded Wikipedia, I could have made it into a for-profit company with advertising banners, but I decided to do something different. We’ve worked hard over the years to keep it lean and tight. We fulfill our mission, and leave waste to others.

Quality of Friendship

Facebook has redefined the meaning of the word friendship. Dictionary.com's first definition of friend is: "a person attached to another by feelings of affection or personal regard", but when chatting with Queen B earlier tonight we realized that we had really lowered the bar on our definition of friendship significantly.

We have established the following general thoughts/guidelines around "friends":

I don’t want to be friends with somebody I hate
If I don’t recognize your name you are out
If I recognize your name as someone I don’t know
If I don’t know how to pronounce your name
If I see you in person and don't recognize you as someone I know
If it is extremely unlikely that I will contact you for the rest of my life (optional)

Also note: Annoying statuses that occur during the friendship maintenance windows may put other friendships at risk
