I Am Ending My Friendship With James Braun

Yes, today I decided that I would end my Facebook friendship with James Braun. James Braun and I became friends when he requested my friendship. I looked and we had mutual friends so I made the assumption that James Braun was Jim Braun, Andrea's husband. Jim Braun, he is not. He has been my friend for over a year

Some facts about James Braun:

*James Braun and I have two things in common, we are both friends with Laura Young and we are both fans of Sarah Palin
*James Braun is from Strongsville, Ohio
*James Braun is single
*James Braun just went from 37 friends to 36 friends (2 of which he does not know)

BTW: I went from 521 friends to 520, Andrea Braun has 583 friends and the real Jim Braun has 179 friends

Tree Surfing

Apparently surfboards and snowboards aren't enough for those in the OC. Folks in San Clemente have started "Tree Surfing". With a rope, tie your Christmas Tree to the car bumper, have your friend, neighbor or brother sit and hold onto the tree and start driving! Your loved one can now be considered a tree surfer.

The TSA is No Army

Another nugget from the TSA website: I think this is supposed to be like the TSA's version of "Be All You Can Be". Unfortunately, I don't see many of the TSA officials living up to this dream:

I am TSA......The Person without whom we can't succeed

*I use innovation, my experience and state-of-the-art technology to protect the traveling public
*I respect the individual needs of each traveler, carrying out my duties with dignity, courtesy and integrity.
*I am intensely committed to ensuring fair treatment in the screening process
*I am the front line of defense, drawing from my imagination to creatively protect America from harm
*I am a transportation security officer

I think all the "I"'s are meant for personal accountability (plus the clever little "eye" that is watching) but as everybody knows there is no "I" in "Team". LOL

Some Travel Updates

Item #1: In lieu of the recent terrorist attempts, please note additional travel guidelines from TSA. Andrea Braun told me that there is a new guideline that says you cant have ANYTHING out for the last hour of the flight but I haven't seen that anywhere......that would be terrible.

I also found these statistics on the TSA site:

*21 passengers were arrested after investigations of suspicious behavior or fraudulent travel documents
*37 firearms were found at checkpoints
*3 artfully concealed prohibited items found at checkpoints
*37 incidents that involved a checkpoint closure, terminal evacuation or sterile area breach

Item #2: Southwest is now offering "Earlybird Check-in". Earlybird check-in costs $10 bucks and basically means that Southwest will check you in at 36 hours before flight rather than you having to check yourself in at 24 hours before flight. This still doesn't guarantee A boarding though. A-listed boarders and business select boarders will continue to be in front of the Earlybird. If this is successful and lots of people use it basically what it does is guarantee you a crappy boarding position if you don't pay the money. I am not a fan, of course, I might be a fan if I wasn't already a guaranteed A boarder.

Feeding the Sick Family While On Bedrest

What do you feed the sick family when you are supposed to be on bedrest and don't have any chicken noodle soup? And what if you are out of just about everything including fresh and canned chicken? Well, tonight David and Sydney had what I am referring to as Carb Goulash. Carb Goulash consisted of the following:

10 fingerling potatoes chopped into bite size pieces
1/3 bag of any small pasta
some chopped celery
2 cans reduced fat chicken broth
1/2 package of Lipton instant onion soup
throw in some thyme, garlic powder and pepper
Put all in pot and boil until potatoes are done

What Are You Eating For Dinner? Update

We did not have In-N-Out. Not only was it not sounding as appetizing, we didn't have time to get it after Sydney succumbed to the stomach flu. I am so praying that I don't get the flu, I figure I should know one way or another in about 36 hours.

What Are You Eating For Dinner?

Check out this "Crap to Eat" flowchart at Tim's Stuck on the 10 blog. I'm having In-N-Out for dinner.

The Stockings Were Hung By The Chimney With Care, In Hopes That Saint Nick Would Soon Be There

For Christmas last year, Laura gave me 5 stockings and the "Noel" you see the stockings hanging from. The stockings were all embroidered (With Custom Embroidery The Possibilities Are Endless) with the names of my family members and while I wasn't pregnant that included any family members that were to come. The names were, David, Kim, Sydney, Cannon and Steven. (We were so sure that another girl would be named Cannon)

We have had Cannon hanging this season and everytime I walked by I wanted her name to be Cannon. This brings me to Christmas night 2009, I am on the JC Penney website and purchasing a replacement matching stocking for Katherine. I'm telling you right now that the Cannon/Steven stockings will remain with the rest of the stockings and if we ever get a surprise, it's Cannon for a girl and Steven for a boy.

The Christmas Present Recap

Yay, I finally got my Kitchenaid mixer! (So did Mom)
Yay, I got my black Ugg boots! (So did Mom)
David got a Droid and one of his photos from the Star News framed (Both hits)
We got a Blue Ray player from Mom and Dad!

Sydney got:
Simba, Pluto, Nemo and Winnie the Pooh stuffed animals
Two baby dolls, one with a stroller, cradle and high chair
The Little People Farm
The Barbie 2-MPH ATV
The Lego Zoo
Books
Magnetic drawing board
Clothes
plus a bunch of Stocking stuffers

It was a good Christmas except for Becca getting sick. (Praying that nobody else gets it)

Christmas Eve 2009

Christmas Eve for the Evans family (or those that are available) is at the Thomas house. Tonight we had a small group (although it was the same size as last year) that consisted of Rachel, Kevin, Mom, Andrew, James, David, Sydney and I.

Despite bedrest (I wasn't very good tonight) we had a great meal. For the second year in a row I made a Prime Rib. I failed to take pictures of any of the meal which is too bad since it was delicious. The full menu was Prime Rib (Kim and Bobby Flay) Creamed Spinach (Rachel and Tyler Florence), Fingerling Potatoes (Kim and a combination of 4 recipes from Tyler Florence, David Lieberman, Rachael Ray and Martha Stewart) and Rolls (Rachel and Ralphs). The Prime Rib was a little too fatty but the flavor was great.

After dinner everybody took off (Mom still had approximately 40 gifts to wrap-yes 40 and was contemplating cooking a 3rd pie for tomorrow) and David and I wrapped Sydney's gifts. Now, bedtime.

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night!

Katherine Elaine Thomas

As you know, we have been trying to come up with a name for the baby girl due 2/22/10 for sometime. Before finding out it was a girl I was sure her name would be Cannon. I still love Cannon (even though websites insist it is a boys name) but we just decided that she wasn't Cannon.

Katherine has long been a favorite name of mine but I love the full name Katherine and don't really care for many of the short names. We will strive for keeping it Katherine.

David had decided several months ago that he wanted the middle name to be Elaine (his moms middle name) so we decided that Katherine (One of my moms aliases) would be a perfect first name.

The decision was made on my birthday, exactly two months before her due date. We can't wait (but we want to wait at least 6 more weeks) for Katherine to be here. I am hoping that now that she has a name she will decide to un-breach herself and uncomplicate things.....well, you know that second children have a tendency to just do their own thing. :)

For future reference: The results of the name poll

Amelia-2 votes (8%)
Cannon-3 votes (12%)
Catherine-5 votes (20%)
Marin-3 votes (12%)
Mia-7 votes (29%)
Reagan-8 votes (33%)
Other-4 votes (16%)

Loving The Christmas Lights

Second Visit To Santa Claus

Sydney's second visit to Santa was a little more traumatic than the first visit. Grandma took her for pictures and according to Becca when Sydney saw Santa she said (clear as a bell) "What is that?" Apparantely she was still wondering when it was her turn to visit.

To Brad

I'm sorry but I hate 23. The reason I hate 23 is because all 23 means is that I just missed 22. 21 at least allows some anticipation since 22 will be there soon but 23 is terrible. Long live 22!!!!!!

I Tried Kobe Beef

I have been wanting to try Kobe beef since I first heard of it a couple of years ago. Kobe beef is the worlds most expensive beef. A Kobe beef steak typically costs more than $75.00 and I really didn't have any confidence that I would have one.

Anyhow, a couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to enjoy a three course dinner that included Kobe beef. My first course was French Onion Soup, my second course was a trio that included Fillet Minon, Lobster and Kobe Beef and the third course was a mint mousse dessert.

All was good but onto the Kobe beef. It was soooo good. You barely needed a knife to cut it and it practically melted in your melt. More than anything though, I just wanted to say that I had tried it.

All in all, it was one of the best meals I have ever had and the company was also equally perfect.

No Longer Socially Acceptable?

The first picture is of Grandma on my birthday in 1978. She has a bunch of people over (we were also celebrating Papa's birthday) and she is wearing a housecoat. Everybody else is dressed up and yet she is there in her housecoat.

The second picture is a picture of Mom on my birthday in 1979. This year she is hosting the party for me and Papa and guess what? Everybody is dressed up and she is wearing her housecoat.

A couple of questions:

Is the housewife the only one allowed to wear the housecoat?
So when did this no longer become socially acceptable?
Do they still sell housecoats?

As You Know, I Lose Stuff

Last week my car was detailed and the detailing guy found 2 ATM cards under the seat. Gotta love it, this is 2 in addition to any lost the many times I have lost my wallet

Urban Dictionary: Photobomb

On December 5th, Urban Dictionary's word of the day was "Photobomb". Photobomb is defined as "to drop into a photo unexpectedly". Reggie B was photobombing all over the Christmas party.
