Thomas Family Spare Ribs

I made some spare ribs the other day and I was pretty impressed with how they turned out. I didn't really use too much of a recipe but here is what I did.

(1) Made a rub and rubbed it into the ribs.. I used 1 Tablespoon of Black Pepper,Kosher Salt and Chili Powder and 1/2 Tablespoon of Paprika and Garlic Powder.

(2) Placed the ribs on a cookie sheet and covered tightly with aluminum foil. Baked the ribs on 300 for 1.5 hours.

(3) Took the ribs out of the oven and covered the ribs in barbecue sauce (any kind but I used Chris and Pitts)

(4) Placed them on a grill (over indirect heat). Grilled for 15 minutes, re-applied the barbecue sauce, flipped the ribs and grilled for another 15 minutes.

(5) Let ribs stand for 10 minutes

Rating Immediate Family Members

Lets just put it out there, my family stinks at commenting on my blog. What is up with that? Do they read it? Are they that uninterested? or can they just not be bothered with leaving their two cents? Or maybe it falls into the category, if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all. I have decided that a rating scale is in order:
  • David-Grade C-Comments rarely and only with sarcasm
  • Dad-N/A-He needs to brush up on his computer skills so he can actually read it
  • Mom-Grade D-Inconsistent reading and very rarely comments
  • Becca-Grade C--Reads consistently but rarely comments (Didn't even comment on Jason's graduation post)
  • Matt-Grade F-Reads only when Kim tells him too and doesn't even comment on posts about himself
  • Rachel-Grade A-Reads consistently and comments better than most HCBC members
  • Andrew-Grade D-Reads inconsistently but rarely comments. When he does he makes fun of Sydney
  • James-Grade D-Reads incosistently and rarely comments.

Thank you, Rachel for being the best commenter and supporter.....by FAR.

She Gets Cuter Every Single Day

Sydney is now sitting in the big girl chair at Starbucks (give me a break she is only a little over one) and waving at every single customer that enters. The attention she receives (because of those killer eyes) is unreal.

Top News Story: June 25, 2019

It was 10 years ago today that America and the world lost one of the greatest entertainers of all time. Michael Jackson, once an aspiring star as a member of the Jackson 5 was catapulted into the spotlight and went on to be known as "The King of Pop". Five of his albums were among the worlds best selling record albums. In later years he was immersed in controversy including allegations of sexual abuse, Bankruptcy and multiple plastic surgeries. His untimely death in 2009 was a shock to fans worldwide.

Meanwhile, fans honored the 10 year anniversary of Farrah Fawcett's death by gathering around her star on the Hollywood walk of fame today. Fans were watching Farrah's hit 70's show, Charlie's Angels on their I-VID's.

It's All About The Marketing

The picture on the left (Meatball Magic) is approximately $6.00 but there is nothing about it that makes me want to buy it. The meatballs don't look remotely appetizing.

The picture on the right is from Williams Sonoma and the meatball product (which looks alot like the meatball magic product but more robust) is approximately $49.00. That sandwich looks so good that I want the product right now!!!!!!! I'll say it over and over, It's all about the marketing.

Fathers Day Dinner

Darn that I took pictures before the food was cooked and forgot to take pictures after. We had quite a meal, Tri-Tip, stuffed lobster, basil shrimp, baked potatoes and a grilled vegetable medley. Yummo!

It was my first shot at lobster and it turned out great. The basil shrimp is fantastic, I have made it several times before and the Tri-tip (Here's a tip, lol) was from Costco and it is the Mortons steakhouse Tri-tip. It was absolutely fantastic.

Here are the before shots for the shrimp and lobster:

Dinner At Target

Sydney and I ate dinner tonight at Target. This was my first time eating at the Target cafe but it reminded me of my childhood days when we would eat at the Fedco cafe. It was always so cool going to Fedco but it was a very special treat if we could stop at the little cafeteria. Yum, hot dogs, popcorn and chinese food.

Swine Flu Couple Gets Married

So the Illinois couple below (AP Photo/Duhon Studio Photography, Sukit Subanersanti) (I included that part because it said mandatory credit for the photo was required) found out two days before their wedding that they both had the Swine Flu. The article on MSNBC starts by stating "The bride wore white - and a face mask. RO!

To ensure their guests were infected they remained 10 feet away from all attendees.

Cafe Verde on Green Street

Today, Larry and I walked to Crocodile Cafe at lunch (our standby stop) and we were standing in front of the restaurant and neither of us really new what we wanted. We decided to go on an adventure. We decided to walk up to Green Street and go east. The first restaurant we saw we would stop at, this turned out to be Cafe Verde.

Cafe Verde was small and intimate inside. It had a full wine bar and they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Unfortunately, the food was just so-so. I had the rib-eye steak sandwich with a side salad. The steak was a little fatty but the salad was good. I was put off that they served steaks but didn't have any A1 Sauce. Larry had breakfast for lunch (his favorite) and his eggs were ordered over easy but they came out over medium. So overall, we rated the place a B-.

We decided that we liked the adventure so next lunch we are going to head west on Green and stop at the first place we see. (Unless it's Chinese since Larry doesn't like Chinese food)

Downer For Sure.....

Great Mileage Captured Here

My cousin Chris snapped these two pics this weekend. The First: My birth date on her odometer and the second represents my birthday for this year.

Two epiphanies: (1) Chris is so thoughtful. (143 Chris!) (2) Chris needs a new car.
