Bad Handwriting

Back in June, when I was on vacation, I wrote several postcards. As I was writing them I realized that my handwriting has become atrocious. Now, in my defense I was using a very small pen that was hard to hold but believe me when I tell you, the writing was terrible. One of them was so bad that when I went to mail it James said "Are you really going to send that?" At that point, I ripped it up, went and bought a new one and then wrote the recipient a two word post card.

Today, I was filling out some paperwork for David at the doctors office and I couldn't get over how terrible my writing looked. Now, this time, I was using a regular size pen so I couldn't blame it on that and I had a great clipboard so I just had to come to terms with the fact that my handwriting sucks.

I got to thinking, how often do I write anything? If I send a card, chances are it says whatever I needed it to say so I usually just sign, "Love Kim". If I have to write a check for something I just have to write the date, amount, recipient and sign it. The most I probably ever write is when I send in the receipts for my expense report. I sign it and then at the bottom I write "Electronically approved by XXX XXXX"

So here's the question: In 2007 does one need to worry about their bad handwriting, try to improve it or just move on?

I'm laughing out loud because I just realized my handwriting sucks not that long ago! It used to be nice. Now I type or text everything!

Don't bother trying to improve it, unless it really bothers you. Instead of postcards, a picture text message will do the trick!

Good handwriting is very important and I think you should work hard to improve it!

Kim, You should strive to have your Handwriting be perfect. Just as you do EVERYTHING else in your life.

you write out "electronically approved by xxxx"?! I just leave that blank to minimize the writing amount required :)

If you could just get your signature to be remotely legible, I could live with the rest of the chicken scratch you call handwriting.

Unless you are a teacher, your handwriting is allowed to be bad as long as you can read it!

I say improve it. Only because I'm sure you sent me a postcard and the reason I didn't get it is because the mailman couldn't read my address??

It's really funny, we just had a big debate over this very issue at a workshop I was at last week. Mind you, we were all teachers of different grade levels arguing over whether penmanship is still important. Ninety-five percent of us said it is. You can't type EVERYTHING so good penmanship is still important. It was a long discussion and very heated!

I didn't get a postcard just chatised when I didn't respond to your blog fast enough.

Don't worry about it. If the people you sent the postcards to know who the card was from I don't see a problem. As for your signature most are not legible anyway and vary each time you sign something.

No, here is the question....Why didn't you send your little sister a postcard? How sad.....

I was there when Kim wrote that postcard. I guess private schools didn't teach her very well. The postcard was so bad she tore it in half and threw it in the trash can. Of course, James and I dug it out so I could put it im my trip scrapbook. If anyone wants to see it - just respond on this blog and when James gets home from camp I will have him put a picture of it on the blog. It is worth seeing.
Love you Kim!!

Hey Rachel,
Be glad you didn't get one - you would have wondered who really is the older sister. Ha Ha - Love ya, Mom

After seeing how your mom treats you, now I know why you treat all of your subordinates the way you do!

The real issue here is, why did I not receive one of these illegible postcards?

Post the picture of the PostCard, Mom.... Inquiring Minds want to Know......

Oh Kim, handwriting is like knitting anymore. If you're good at it, you get to brag about it. If you're not, you just shrug and say "well I'm good at (fill in blank here) and no one's perfect" then giggle with your head tilted to the side. Also, at least you're a good speller!

Also, tell your mom to post up that picture of the torn postcard, yah!

Kim, seeing that you got such a huge response to this post, I would like to see your responses to all of us!

unless you have to write on the form when you reqest replacement atm cards, i think you're good. besides, most celebrity signatures (aka autographs) are not legible. :)

It must be really embarrassing at work. I hope that you don't have to sign things and turn them into your boss... and have him/her look at your writting, then look at you, then your writting......

I probably just didn't know it was you cuz the writing was so jacked!

Sorry... better work on it champ!
