Is It Pronounced Lora or Lara?

Chances are if I am on a conference call with Laura I am bound to get offended. When Laura starts a call, she starts it like everyone else does, by announcing her name, "Hi, this is Lara". Soon someone will address her incorrectly as "Lora". She is not offended, I always am. She never corrects the individual and I sit there the rest of the time seething. Do people pay so little attention that they do not notice how she pronounces her name? This lack of attention falls into the category of things that offend me.

The other day I had the following conversation with my dad:

Dad: How is Lora
Kim: Lara is fine
Dad: Is her name Lara, I thought it was Lora
Kim: Yes, it's Lara
Dad: Well, how does she spell it?
Kim: Laura
Dad: That's Lora
Kim: I think the person whose name it belongs to knows better than you how to pronounce it
Dad: All I am telling you is that Laura is Lora
Kim: (Offended) You know, I have two employees that work for me. One is called Noel (like the Christmas word) and one is called Nole. Both spell their name Noel. Even if I think both of them should be the Christmas word, Nole knows better than me how to prounounce his name. So I always call one the Christmas word and one Nole but they are both Noel.
Dad: Well, every Laura I have ever known is called Lora.
Kim: Not every one.

So all of you that are on conference calls with us that call her Lora, stop offending me and call her Lara.

haha. I have trained myself :)

However, I allow any stab at pronunciation of my last name ;)

I'm with Andrew. I have to say, I understand Dad's point on this one-sorry Laura!

It has always offended me as well.

I've been trying to think of an "aur" that is pronounced "ar". I keep getting "or"s: dinosaur, taurus, etc.
