In my work travels around SCAL and Phoenix I am often treated to some great eateries. Below is part 1 of a 4 part list of great restaurants that I highly recommend. You will not find "The Claimjumper" or "Olive Garden" on this list because these are all one of a kind places.
Central Coast-One of the best steaks (if not the best) that I have ever had is at Jocko's in Nipomo, California. I have only eaten there once (with a bunch of great folks) and I can't wait to go back. Another great place on the Central Coast is Splash Cafe, located in Pismo Beach. Splash Cafe serves the best clam chowder on the planet. http://www.splashcafe.com/ I highly recommend a bowl of clam chowder with the seafood topping.....mmm. (For those in Bakersfield and Oxnard you can now buy Splash Cafe clam chowder at your local Costco.)
Oxnard-"Hook, Line and Sinker", in Oxnard (formally known as "Fresh Catch") is the best place I have been for Fish and Chips. I was introduced to this place by Bruce and the Oxnard crowd and it has become a regular stop on my trips to Ventura county.
The Valley-There are so many great places that Nelson and the Northridge group have taken me to but one the bests has to be the Pizza from Ravanelli's. It is located pretty close to Northridge Hospital and we routinely order in this fabulous pizza. Another note worthy location is Brent's Deli, in Northridge. Brent's is a Jewish deli that serves the most unbelievably good sandwiches and the menu is almost as huge as the sandwiches. (http://www.brentsdeli.com/pdf/BRENTSdinner.pdf) Make sure you take advantage of the pickled green tomatoes that are served as a free appetizer, they are out of this world.

Hmm I believe I need to take you to a few out here in Sin City to add to your list. I know of one or two :)
I would like to try Brent's deli. Jewish deli's are so good, Kosher pickles are the best!

I have never heard you talk about "one of the best steaks I have ever had" ---- we will have to take a little drive some time and have one. Mom
You gotta try Gyu-Kaku, Champie. It's pure heaven.

Burger King is pretty good too.
I love that fish and chips place - except Mr Redden was there. Then again I think he paid.
