Starbucks Changes The Milk

Historically, by default all Starbucks drinks are made with whole milk. If you would like to customize to non-fat, 2%, cream or half and half you could just ask and they would happily do it. This Starbucks Barista used to always tick me off, here's why:

KT: Iced Venti Chai
Loser Barista: Do you want regular milk with that? (said loud enough for the entire store to hear, and just notice that condescending dumb look)
KT: Yes (said quietly)

This question makes you feel like responding "Yes, please, give me whole milk, I desire to be fat, lets tell the entire store" The question absolutely should not ever have been asked because I was making no drink customization, I was just ordering it as it came!

This week, Starbucks changed to 2% milk as the default milk used in drinks. I noticed a change in taste in my Chai (The Chai is much stronger since there isn't as much fat floating around in the drink to absorb it) so I asked the Barista, S16, what had changed. He stated that on the sly Starbucks had changed to 2% milk instead of whole but you could always order it with whole milk if you wanted. (I heard at the Starbucks in Phoenix they had signs announcing the change but no such luck here in SCAL) I told S16 and his Barista friend that I just couldn't order my drink as "An Iced Venti Whole Milk Chai" that would be like stating "I am trying to get fatter, please give me the fattest Iced Chai possible". The Barista friend then stated that several people she knows orders their drinks with half and half. Ick!!!

Anyhow, it is good to move to 2%, I will be experimenting this week with less pumps of Chai in my drinks to offset the milk change. Change sucks!

UGH, change sucks. That is a GREAT picture, though. The sbux by my office did have a sign up announcing the change, although it was a very small sign posted at the end of the counter where you receive your drink, not where you order it. Not really sure what good it was doing there other than causing people to start yelling out to the baristas to change their orders?

I am big on advice today. I think next time you order you should say, "Iced Venti Whole Milk Chai, so there is more of me to love. 2% is for sissies."

Change is inevitable! I will have to try the Chai with 2% milk.

I am Skim milk person any way! I always order mine special. "I would like a Venti, Fat-Free, Sugar-Free Caramel Light Frap." Or in colder months I get the warm version. I can tell if they used different milk though. The regular version are SOOOOOOOO much better. But until my body loses 50 lbs. on fat and calories, I am stuck with my version.

Starbucks in THE OC have been doing 2% milk for quite a while. They have a small little note about this on the bottom left of the drink board thingy. My Drink of choice is a non-fat, no foam vanilla latte, so the new swiching to 2% milk has not impacted my life. :-) Sorry Kim!

I'm pretty sure I'm okay with the 2%...we shall see!

"Change Sucks" - WOW....

Change is inevitable. Changes happen everyday. Change is good. If change didn't happen, the everything would become stale.

Please, take a step back and rethink your comment about change. And remember, people that work for you, including some of the newest team members, read your blog.

LOL, anonymous. You really either need to get a sense of humor or not read these blogs. Sarcasm and humor are required character traits to get the point of the posts. If you are not enjoying what you are reading, why do you continue to read? Nothing better to do than sit on your high horse and critique?

I think the best part of anonymous's response is that they displayed their lack of sense of humor at 8:22

Change sucks! This is a perfect example of why I don't publicize the fact that I blog to my team (I prefer to call them my team as opposed to "people that work FOR me").

I'm sure several of them have stumbled upon it, but thankfully they respect the fact that I am a person outside of work just like they are.

I'm getting a Chai tomorrow in honor of Kim!

To the first anonymous poster-Kim is the best boss ever, if you don't like her or her sense of humor there is something seriously wrong with you.

Kinda like when Coke changed their formula. Uproar.

Ps My starbucks had a very small sign. Since I am a non fat orderer I was pleased at their attempt to skinny the world

Wow... if sarcasm wasn't allowed or a requirement... I would have been banned from here along time ago. I think that Anonymous had the right to say what they said. As long as it is not a PERSONAL ATTACK against Kim. Kim has a right to be as boring or as exciting or as entertaining as she pleases on this blog. As for the newest team members or her oldest ones... her points of view here ARE FOR THE BLOG ONLY POOPY HEADS... Corporate policy and/or changes are not reflected here! So please advise yourself to step back and realize that this blog and any of its opinions are not work related!

Kim... you are going to be written up though... using cameras in Starbucks is against Starbucks Corp. Policy... and your team might see you breaking it. Sorry, can't let your team think that you can just do anything you want to do.

I love it - Tina Marie writing you up...what a laugh!!!!

but, i can so relate with the conversation you had with LB (loser barista). she has done the SAME thing to me and i feel so ashamed when i mutter out a "yes". why does she need to ask if that's the way it comes!!?? that's like saying, "do you want it in a cup?"
