Growing Up Without A Pool
A couple of months ago Matt and I were discussing how in the summertime we used to take this big black barrel (some would call it a trash can) fill it up with water and play in it like it were a pool. David looked at us with a look that said "I'm horrified and don't plan on letting my daughter play in a trash can" I don't ever remember us throwing trash into it but it is possible....because there was more than one..uh...pool. Were these redneck pools? Probably. We also played on slip and slides but the best was when John (the only pool owner on our street) would invite us all over to swim. In lieu of a pool people need to improvise. On Saturday, I was watching Brittney, Jessica and Melody. They wanted to start a car wash so they would have an opportunity to "get wet". When I said I really didn't want to run a car wash because it would be too difficult with Sydney, Jessica looked at me and said "Thats okay, lets just get wet with the hose".
For the next 45 minutes we played games with the hose. Did you have a pool or were you forced to improvise?

LOL, you grew up with more than one pool?! You were so spoiled! RO at David's comment about Sydney playing in trash cans :)
I did not grow up with a pool, but made sure to make friends with neighbors who had one! And, we definitely did slip-n-slide.
I grew up sans pool and had to improvise. I remember my Dad putting a pitchfork in the ground and putting the spray nozzle on the hose into the handle of the pitchfork so it stayed on for us. I think that's a hillbilly sprinkler! :)
LOL on the redneck pool...I love that! We didn't grow up with a pool but we did in fact have the slip and slide. We also played "mud girls" (yes I made my brother say he was a girl!) where we hosed dirt, made mud, then covered ourselves from head to toe in it. That was great.
I have always considered one of the greatest blessings of my life to have grown up with a pool. I swear that it seems like every weekend all of our friends and family were over to swim; great memories. When I think back, I can’t believe the time we spent in the water between, trips to the beach, local public pools, Raging Waters, swim team…is amazing that we didn’t have chronic ear infections. stuckonthe10.blogspot.com
See that looks fun for no pool, but they are in desperate need of a slip'n slide!
Great photo. Such posers!
yeah no pool at my house either. we totally were hose and sprinkler girls :)
As you know, I grew up with a pool!
THAT IS SO FUNNY! I totally remember that black barrel. That is totally a redneck pool. I also remember playing in the Goldens backyard and "accidentally" kicking the ball over the fence so it would go in John's yard. Then we'd knock on the door and tell him in hopes that he'd ask us over to swim. How dumb we were. This is a good memory.
Slip and slides and kiddie pools and friends and family with pools... great memories!
no pool. When at Aunt Linda's house though, we'd rig the hose into the spring on the tetherball pole so it would shoot a stream over the trampoline and jump over/thru it...like a trampoline isn't dangerous enough, especially without the walls, lets get it good and slippery too. Amazed we didn't all end up quadriplegics!
No pool until I was 9, but had a best friend/neighbor across the street that had a pool...ahhh!
When we moved to a condo, we had the community pool. It actually wasn't so bad because the majority of the neighbors were old. However, old people in swimsuits = scary!
