James arrived a few minutes later and I prepared the surgical suite. Exhibit A
Next I retrieved the tools (1) High Powered Small Flashlight (2) Toddler Spoon Exhibit B
I took a picture of the patient prior to extraction Exhibit C
The last picture is a photo of the doctor after the procedure Exhibit D

So James assumes the position. (On his knees, next to the toilet) I sat on the step for the tub, turned on the flashlight and pointed it into his mouth. Next, I inserted the toddler spoon far into the back of his mouth. As he started to cough I saw the culprit, on the left side of his mouth (my right) I could see a small piece of cabbage. Extracting it would require another attempt.
We repeat the procedure and once again I see the cabbage but am unable to reach it as he begins to cough.
James asks if I think he could reach it with his fingers. I told him that I thought he could so this time I turned on the flashlight and instead of the toddler spoon, James attempted to utilize his fingers to perform the extraction. Unfortunately, this to failed.
I determined that if I flipped the spoon regular side up I may be able to scoop it out. Fortunately, on this attempt I was able to dislodge the pesky cabbage and James proceeded to swallow it. Afterwards the patient drank a sip of water (in the 24 cup) and was discharged to his home.

Oh my goodness...this is crazy...I can't believe that James had to go over to your house to help him throw up some food...lol...i don't think I would let you stick anything down my throat...I hate that feeling!
It was quite an experience KruegerFam let me tell you. At least its evident that I do not have an eating problem like a member of the Thomas family, its more of a digestive style of problem like a youngster in the Krueger family used to possess. BUT! I am grateful to the successful Kim1Champ surgeon for accomplishing the task of extracting a piece of cabbage from the mouth of James1Teenager.
yuck!
I love that both patient and doctor have the biggest smiles I have ever seen
I am glad that the extraction was successful! Great job, Kim1Champ!
you'll have to change your name to Dr. Kim1Champ
heehee---this reminds me of the Alice/Jane conversation about asian names!
Important differences between surgery at the Thomas house rather than Urgent Care:
1) patient was immediately seen-I assume there was no time spent in the waiting room or filling out pesky forms 2) usage of toddler spoon-I assume Urgent Care has a special instrument for mein removal
3) participation by patient-Urgent Care would have kicked James1Teenager out had he tried to participate
4) photo journalism-Urgent Care probably has a no photo policy
I am glad that the Thomas house is a successful alternative to Urgent Care!
This is a great story! I loved the pictures to go along with it, too:-)
Great job Dr. Kim1Champ and James1Teenager
Congratulations on your success!
Going to the urgent care was really an option?
Thanks for taking care of it.
Don't you remember doing this trick when you were a kid?!
My siblings would "floss" the noodle throw the throat out the nose all the time. Kinda disturbing.
Kim, no offense but aren't you a little old to be playing doctor?
