Jack Bauer Is The Coolest Human

Season 7 was not my favorite but it was awesome!!!!!! Go Jack!!!!!!!

From Chicks to Dicks

Chicks sporting goods was recently bought out by Dicks sporting goods. You know there is something cool about working at Chicks but I can't think of anything cool about working at Dicks. This goes down as the worst store name change in history. The poor Chicks employees who used to be so cool now work at Dicks. How sad.

12 Years Later (Happy Anniversary)

P.S. How cute is Sydney in the jacket Diane got her? How cute am I in Andrea's gloves (They are coming back to you, my friend, I promise.

Flat Stanley Name Plate Searching

Tonight, Jeff and I went into a couple of shops in San Francisco searching for a Stanley California license plate. Apparently Stanley is not a popular name because we couldn't find one but we did find the following and there was no tampering on our part.

What Do You See?

When you first start flying it is interesting looking down from the plane and trying to spot things on the ground. It is so hard to identify anything in the beginning. I remember I could never tell which freeway was what and overall couldn’t identify anything. After several trips you can start identifying freeways and large landmarks. “Oh look, there is Magic Mountain” or “There’s the airport” or “The Staples Center”. This novelty eventually wears off as you become more confident in your eye-spying skills. The next mode you go into is really not caring whats on the ground. This mode could also result in you giggling or thinking people around you are dumb because they do care. Such inexperienced fliers…..lol

So today, I flew Ontario to Sacramento, not one of my normal routes and I happened to be looking out the window and I started paying attention to what was on the ground. I admit it, I got interested again, I also congratulated myself on being such a good landmark finder. Where I used to be impressed by my skills at major landmarks and freeways I am now really good at identifying streets, intersections and buildings. Considering I was on a route through the foothills that I am never on I was impressed with myself for quickly identifying the following from approximately 20,000 feet:

My street
Pasadena High School
Santa Anita Mall
Foothill Blvd
Madre Blvd
Victory Park
South Lake Avenue
Lake View Terrace

Sierra Madre Congregational Church
Pasadena Nazarene
Descanso Gardens
Glendale Memorial
Eaten Canyon Golf Course
McDonalds on Altadena Drive

Best Buy/Starbucks

Of course also, Burbank Airport, Santa Anita Racetrack, Rose Bowl etc.

But the real treat was seeing Half Dome and Yosemite Valley. Totally Cool!

Mothers Day At Knotts Berry Farm

Mothers Day at Knotts Berry Farm is such a big deal that they have three colored lines that you get into depending on your reservation choice. We went for breakfast (not the brunch) with Matt, Kim and Mom and Dad. That meant we were in the fourth line, (the one with no color-lol)

The food was great! When you go to Knotts Berry Farm, you just have to get something country to eat and the food did not disappoint.Matt ordered the Country Fried Chicken (who is he?) and I ordered the Corned Beef Hash. Dad actually ordered the chicken hash and it was pretty good. We also had the best biscuits and gravy I have ever had-so good.

P.S. I could kill myself for not bringing home a Boysenberry Pie. Yum Yum!

Reduced Fat BlueBerry Coffee Cake

The only thing I ever order to eat at Starbucks is the Reduced Fat Blueberry Coffee Cake. Last week, the manager was ringing me up (instead of the awesome baristas at my local Starbucks) and when I ordered one Iced Venti Chai and one Reduced Fat Blueberry Coffee Cake she handed me a Blueberry muffin and a Chai that by the way really wasn't that good. (The Chai being proof that usually the associates are better than the managers at the actual work).

Anyhow, I corrected her on the blueberry muffin and she exchanged for the coffee cake.Today, the manager was ringing up again and the following conversation occurred

Kim: One Iced Venti Chai and Reduced Fat Blueberry Coffee Cake
Manager: Iced Venti Chai and Blueberry Muffin
Kim: No, that's a Reduced Fat Blueberry Coffee Cake
Manager (joking): You did that to me last week! Have a problem with remembering what to order, huh?

Um, no, you clearly have a listening problem and I will be bringing Joshua by at the start of your day from now on to remind you to listen carefully. Reduced Fat Blueberry Coffee Cake sounds nothing like Blueberry Muffin.

When Yellow Is Bad (Part 2)

Ever since seeing the bright yellow phones in Reno and taking this picture bright yellow make us laugh, because bright yellow usually is bad. See Part 1

Jane and I attended a meeting last week and were lucky enough to be presented with our own individual yellow binders. Seriously, what company gives plain bright yellow binders to it's prospective clients? No company logo, just a bright yellow binder.

PS I think it's time for Laura to clean her pearl lens. Remember the difference when I cleaned mine?

My Eyebrows

In the past I have received many compliments on the shape of my eyebrows. A couple of guys in Phoenix have said "I have the best eyebrows they have ever seen", I remember it once made Mindy jealous. Fast forward to 2008:

After Sydney I found that the eyebrows were the thing that never seemed to get done. I could never remember to go in and get them waxed. So one day after arriving in Phoenix (and before getting to the office) Jane relays the following conversation between a certain male someone (who obviously didn't know we were BFF) and herself:

Jane: We'll need to consult with Kim Thomas on that Field Services question
Certain Male Someone: You know what bugs me about Kim Thomas
Jane: What?
Certain Male Someone: Promise you won't tell anyone?
Jane: I promise
Certain Male Someone: She used to have great eyebrows and now they are terrible

After hearing the story, I made Jane stop at the closest salon and let me get them waxed before going to the office. So, since then I have been better but not great at getting them done. (Of course I try to get them done before going to Phoenix but this last week I didn't)

Anyway, part of the problem with the eyebrows is that I hate the way everyone has been doing them. The place I used to go to closed down and nobody is doing them the way I like them. It doesn't matter how many times I tell the person they need to arch them it never seems right. So, I decided to take a picture of myself with the good eyebrows when I got mine done the other day. What picture? My Phoenix name badge. On that picture they are perfect. They actually turned out pretty good (not as good but almost) so for the first time since Tim and Kathy (The lovely Vietnamese couple who owned Crystal Nails) closed shop my eyebrows look decent.

(
Note: The pic is circa July 2007 and one of the last time's Kathy had done my eyebrows and on the actually day I received my eyeliner tattoo
Thanks to Jane for being the historian on this day)

Getting Hair Done

I hate getting my hair done because it takes so long. I have been putting it off for ages but decided today that I would do it. I left work at 3PM so that it wouldn't take all night to accomplish. So I have sat here for 3 hours and counting. I brought a Chai tea with me and had a full Blackberry charge. I am now down to one bar.

First hour: Hair Cut and 40 minute break while drying of which 25 minutes was spent outside on a conference call

Second hour: Complete dark brown dye, wash and dry. 18 emails sent, 22 (no kidding) emails read. One HR issue addressed, 3 Sametime conversations, 4 Blackberry messenger conversations, 2 phone calls

Third hour: Complete set of highlights and waiting period. 3 phone calls, one set of dinner instructions to David via blackberry messenger and 14 emails. Several text messages sent including urgent request to boss, drafted 2 blogs

Fourth hour: Wash, Dry, trim of bangs, drafted another blog, approved a communication and discussed Pearl memory problems

Finished at 6:49PM (And I now have bangs)

One Man's Treasures....

Ever since my visit to Andrea Braun's I have been trying to better organize my house and have looked to all sorts of avenues for tips. Jane has this organizer where she keeps all types of paper supplies. I always thought it was efficient so this morning I took a picture of the outside of it (with the labels) so that I could take some good categories home and see if I could do something similar.

As I was looking at the supplies I saw one little bin that attracted my attention. Believe it or not, I am generally not a snooper but was compelled to look inside the bin marked "LRY's Treasures". What a surprise I had in store for me!

Jane collects plastic buttons? And she refers to them as her treasures? The funny thing is she has given me two buttons in the past. She had picked up to free matching buttons at home depot, and she had picked up two free matching buttons at the nursing home. Silly me, I thought these were one-off's but apparently they are part of a greater collection of treasures that I didn't know anything about.

Follow-Up On First Movie Since 2005

NOT TRUE! Two people have reminded me that I was at the movies with them after 2005's Batman Begins.

In 2006: One afternoon a technician (who will remain nameless because it may be embarrassing) and I went to the movies on a Friday afternoon. We saw "The Devil Wears Prada"

In 2007: Jane, MJM and I went to see Blades of Glory while on a trip to Pennsylvania

and TONIGHT I went to my 2nd movie this week! I already forgot the name but it was the one with Ben Affleck and Russell Crowe.

Earth! (First Movie Since 2005)

Tonight, I went and saw "Earth" with Becca, Jason, Mom, Dad and the kids. This was the first movie I saw in the theater since 2005 when we saw "Batman Begins". It's too bad, I had seen "Earth" before. While watching it I noticed several scenes that looked strikingly familiar, it looked just like "Planet Earth" which I first wrote about on April 28, 2007. Mom and I discussed several scenes that reminded us of Planet Earth but I insisted it couldn't have been the same footage. That was until I got home and looked on the Internet:

As this article says it should be called "Planet Earth-the remix". Bottom line: Same footage just condensed from 11 hours to 1.5. Different narrator, they went from Sigourney Weaver to James Earl Jones. (I thought Sigourney did a great job). If you haven't seen Planet Earth or even if you have you will most likely enjoy it. The footage is spectacular.

So the first movie I saw in 4 years I had seen before and by the way, we had front row seats to the movie and Sydney and I spent a size able amount of time outside the theater. LOL

First Time With the Hose

Last week Sydney had her first experience playing outside with the hose. In 2008, I wrote about Growing up without a pool and how fun it was to play with the hose. Here are pictures from her first experience (which she loved)

Kim: Because I have to go to work
Joshua: Have a good day, Aunt Shi. Make sure you listen good

A Follow-Up To Room Service

Remember, it would have cost me $14.95 if I had ordered a continental breakfast to be delivered to my room. That continental breakfast would have included ONE juice, ONE pastry (toast, danish, English muffin or croissant) and ONE hot breakfast. Instead of ordering room service, I pulled out a coupon given to me at check-in. It was good for one FREE continental breakfast downstairs (Since I am a Hilton Gold member), I opted to use it.

At the continental breakfast downstairs they had all you can eat pastries (not choice of), all you can eat fruit, smoked salmon, 5 cold cereals, and oatmeal with 5 toppings. In addition, as many beverages as I want. That certainly was a deal! I had the oatmeal with brown sugar, granola and peaches. YUMMY!!!!!

Room Service = Not PS Smart

Tonight, I really haven't felt well. I have been fighting something for weeks, I've been tired and sick off and on and tonight while I was at dinner with Jeff and the San Francisco leads I really began to feel sick. I was feeling so sick I didn't eat ANY of my dinner.

So far (8:43PM) I have not gotten super sick and I thought maybe I will place a room service breakfast order since there is nothing in my stomach and I know I will wake up very hungry. I grab the menu and literally gasp at the prices. Here are a few:

Continental Breakfast: Includes choice of juice, one pastry (Croissant, Danish, English Muffin or Toast) and one hot beverage (Coffee or Tea) $14.95

Wharf Omelet: served with has browns $17.95

Buttermilk Pancakes: served with maple syrup and butter $14.50

By the way: I will NOT be ordering breakfast room service.
