McDonalds Versus Starbucks

First off, I realize this is my second McDonalds post in a week. (Freaky) McDonalds has recently introduced Iced Coffee, in case you are one of 5 people on the planet that hasn't seen the commercial, it can be found here. It seriously plays all the time. McDonalds is trying to compete directly with Starbucks and they start off by offering their iced coffee at $1.79.

Twice now, I have been to the mall and
everybody I looked at has had an iced coffee from McDonalds. Today the chick working at hot dog and a stick was drinking one, an older asian couple were sitting their drinking it and two young, what I assumed were friends were chatting on a bench drinking the coffee. I stopped by my moms later and there was a Hazelnut one that James had bought.

So I guess my question is, does McDonalds have a prayer of competing with Starbucks? It appears so, I can imagine if I was going to McDonalds I could order one of these but I would never go to McDonalds specifically for it. If I am going anywhere for coffee it would be Starbucks every time.

My last comment on this is that I am surprised that McDonalds does not offer Mocha. Isn't Mocha the most popular flavored coffee? They offer Hazelnut, Vanilla, Sugar Free Vanilla, Caramel and Regular. Year Round, Starbucks offers Vanilla, Sugar-Free Vanilla, Hazelnut, Sugar-Free Hazelnut, Mint, Raspberry, Caramel, and Toffee Nut, Cinnamon Dolce, Mocha, and White Chocolate Mocha. Seasonally they offer, Melon, Peppermint, Pumpkin, Eggnog and Gingerbread-sometimes more......So Take that McDonalds!

I'm blaming your not working on the fact that you're so well versed in McDonald's commercials and their products. :) If they had mocha, it'd come down to a drive thru issue. If my options were drive thru McD's or walk in Starbucks...I'd be driving my lazy self thru.

I prefer McD's regular iced coffee to Starbuck's. It really is good iced coffee. I mean, it's no Dunkin' Donuts, but it does the trick! :)

LOL, Ann. I'm with you Kim, I have bought the iced coffee before because I was breakfasting at McD's, but I would not go there specifically for coffee.

I can't bring myself to go to McDonald's for coffee. I must admit, Starbucks is my first and only choice. I don't even go to other types of coffee places.

Jenn Ann-You need a drive-thru Starbucks near you. They are wonderful! There would be no need to make a choice. LOL!

I use only Starbuck's at home. Target sells it for $6.99 vs. the grocery store and Starbucks at $10.99/12 ounces. However when I am out I love McD's coffee-it is great! I am so over flavored coffees, they almost make me sick. The thought of iced coffee is also repulsive to me. This is coming from a 2 pot a day coffee drinker. Dunkin Donuts can't begin to complete but I have noticed them selling their ground coffee in groceries stores. Btw tomorrow Dunkin Donuts is giving away free iced coffees all day-5/15. kays

It's all about atmosphere-in which McDonalds cant compete.

But QT on the other hand.............

Andria - I'm with you. The only place that I will get coffee is at Starbucks, but I think part of that is because I can't drink "just coffee". I gotta have the mocha with whip and some raspberry and I just noticed today that they have the mint java chip with chocolate whip cream out for the summer... Looks like I'll be having "dessert" coffee for breakfast tomorrow.

I'm not a coffee drinker of any kind...not flavored, not foo-foo'd, not iced...no coffee.

Agree with Jane, am also QT junkie. Embarrassing, but cost-effective! SFFV (sugar free french vanilla) "cappuccino" works for me @ $1.19!

mcdonalds coffee is really good. in fact mostly everyone i know goes to mcdonalds for the coffee... its way cheaper than starbucks and sumtimes even better. in fact ive dumped my coffee out twice and went to mcdonalds instead of dunkin donuts. you just arent giving it a chance since you all are stuck on your ways of "Starbucks" i bet if you had a test and neither one of them were labled you wouldnt know the difference.
