Watch Out-New Airport Security Rules

On Sunday it was so hot that I walked into the terminal at Burbank to wait for David to get the car. While in there, I read this sign that announced new TSA rules. I realize it's a bit hard to read so here are the first two sentences:

"Beginning Saturday, June 21, 2008 passengers that willfully refuse to provide identification at security checkpoints will be denied access to the secure areas of airports. This change will apply exclusively to individuals that simply refuse to provide any identification" and then "This new procedure will not affect passengers that may have misplaced, lost or otherwise do not have ID but are cooperative with officers"

ARE YOU KIDDING? Does this mean that prior to last weekend I could have just refused to provide identification and gotten on the plane? I assume they have been special screening these folks like I had to do when I lost my ID but I can't believe that they have been letting people on that just refuse to show ID. What a joke.

I'm most impressed that you took a picture anywhere near the security checkpoint. I'm always too scared to do so...remember, I'm a rule follower and generally dislike getting into trouble. Yes, you may laugh now...

Interesting.

I'm so not a rule follower, so I think I would have taken the picture, too! ;)

Jenn Ann - I too am a rule follower, and it sucks, but I can't change after this many years!!

Wow, nice rule TSA! TSA is a joke. I always laugh when I go to the airport because they seem like they lack detail orientation in a big way.

Per my little sister, a kid who flew every week would just refuse to his show ID. The TSA got mad because it required a long interragation every time. But no ID was required.

I just read yesterday in The USA Today that the TSA has accumulated a million dollars in the last 3 years from people who left their pocket change in the little bins. It was really interesting..listed which airports had the most and least change. One airport only accumulated just over a dollar in one whole year.

OMG! you mean showing your ID was an option? (i guess you never know unless you ask!) but, i seem to recall that i had to go through a special screening line when i had inadvertantly shown them an expired driver's license. looking back, it would have been easier just to refuse to show ID from the start. nice!
