Cleaning Out the Center Console

Friday, while waiting to pick up James from school I decided to clean out the center storage console in my car. The contents were interesting to say the least. The top items were receipts, Starbucks cards, wallets and medication. Take a look:

*7 types of medication
*$12.58 in change
*2 wallets that were replaced due to their size
*lots of receipts
*24 Starbucks cards

The Butterfly Trance

Mom has this butterfly rattle that she uses everyday to make Elizabeth fall asleep. Mom shakes the butterfly over and over (sometimes off and on for hours) and Elizabeth stares and listens to it. As she watches the butterfly she slowly nods off until she falls asleep.

Today, Rachel babysat Elizabeth and Sydney and I came over to hang out with her. Before leaving, Mom demonstrated the proper technique for putting Elizabeth into what I call the "Butterfly Trance". I am pleased to report that Rachel did a fabulous job of executing the technique and it produced fantastic results (and all in just a few minutes). See the photos below for proof:

Natural Event Naming Designation

While over at Jane Says and reading the blog on Wildfire X I had an idea for the next job I want. I want to be the person that names natural events. I will be President of the Natural Event Naming Designation Enterprise. I will solicit several of you to be on the committee. I need creative people to assist me in this process. We will come up with creative names as opposed to the non-imaginative names that are given (by whoever does this now) "Wildfire X", "Northridge Earthquake", "Hurricane Andrew" etc.

We will start practicing with "Wildfire X" and then future natural events. Here is what we currently know about Wildfire X (Hopefully, this information will help you with your submission)

*2000 acre fire
*It is on the edge of the Grand Canyon
*(Visit Jane's Blog to see a photo of one of the firefighters (name Truly Brown)
*It has consumed 3.1 miles of Ponderosa Pine Trees
*Believe the fire was arson
*The fire is 60% contained

So what should this fire be renamed to?

Cleaning Up My Blackberry

Last night (about 2:30AM) when I was feeding Sydney I decided to clean up miscellaneous stuff on my Blackberry. I ran across a note file which took me a few minutes to figure out what it was. Below is the content of the file. Any idea what it is?

925, 933, 944, 956, 1007, 1011, 1021, 1028, 1033, 1057, 1250, 1255, 100, 106, 111, 117, 122, 124, 129, 133, 138, 141, 143, 148, 150, 153, 158, 201, 207, 213, 218, 222, 229, 232, 248, 252, 257, 303, 307, 312, 315, 317, 324, 326, 328, 330

The Giant Playpen

A couple of days ago, Sydney and I ventured out to Becca's softball game (she is the coach) where David was taking pictures and mom was watching Joshua and Elizabeth. Mom suggested that a good place for viewing the game was from inside the batting cage (since balls couldn't hit us and Joshua could then run around). She asked if I wanted to go in there and I said sure. So we pushed our strollers on into the batting cage.........

A few minutes later, Darlene, her kids and parents arrived. We were happy to see them and persuaded them to come on into the batting cage. There ended up being three strollers, five adults, seven kids and two soccer balls in the batting cage.

Joshua played soccer with another kid, the adults took turns holding Sydney and Elizabeth, I was chastised for not having a warm enough blanket and everybody that walked by laughed. I dubbed the batting cage, the giant playpen.

Who Needs a Home Phone?

My home phone (which I NEVER answer) is not used very much. I will say that I have answered it more since being off work than I probably have in the last year. I guess there is something in my subconscious that is saying to me, "right now you are a housewife, it's your job to answer the phone." That isn't the point here though, the point is I just received my AT&T home phone bill.

My AT&T bill is on autopay and I will admit that if you are a bill on autopay the chances of me normally paying attention to you are slim. Being the housewife, I have also decided that I should review the bills as they come in. So today, the AT&T bill got opened and this is what I discovered:

Last month I made 9 calls from my home phone. Here is the breakdown of the 9 calls:

5 to my mom
1 to David
1 to the Housekeeper
1 to Kays
1 to Jane

The total minutes used was 31, compared to my AT&T cell phone which used 4,822 minutes.

The crazy part of this is my monthly bill was $74.97. The previous bill was $73.97. I would like to just cancel the home phone but for some reason David wants to keep it. (Note that he did not make any calls on it last month) I guess we will switch to Vonage, at least then we will only be throwing away $25.00 per month........

Evans Day Care (Thanks Mom)

A couple of weeks ago when I was released from the hospital we went to mom's to pick up Sydney. When I walked in there were toys everywhere. Elizabeth was playing in the Saucer, Joshua was playing with Pooh Bear (Or as he calls him, Papoo), and Mom was holding Sydney. The scene was hilarious and must have taken mom back 20 something years. I snapped the following shot:
Thanks Mom for taking care of Sydney while I was in the hospital and thanks (in advance) for taking care of her when I go back to work. You are the best!

Is A Diaper Bag a Form of Purse?

Most people that know me, know that I don't carry a purse. In fact, I hate purses. I feel best when I just have my blackberry, lipstick and a single credit card on me. So, it's a bit challenging these days with an infant carrier, infant and a DIAPER BAG. The diaper bag makes me crazy! The last couple of days I worked on finding a smaller bag to replace the monster diaper bag on a daily basis. There will be times when I need a large diaper bag but that will be the exception.

I found the perfect bag at Eddie Bauer. It is the Expedition Small Guide Bag (The description says it's for "On the go, and always ready for adventure"-Yeah!)

The traditional diaper bag is on the left and it measures in at 16L x 12w x 7.5D. My new expedition bag on the right is 9H x 7.5W x 2 3/4 D. The size is perfect and the expedition bag now holds all the necessities for a diaper bag:

3 Diapers, 1 Travel Wipes, 1 Receiving Blanket, 1 Anti-Bacterial Lotion, 1 Desitin and a onsie.

Running errands with the Expedition bag will be much easier. The traditional diaper bag will be stocked and kept in the car. I can then use it to refill the Expedition bag as needed. Three cheers for the perfect bag!

Jenn Ann Needs a Blackberry

On Friday, Jenn Ann took a photo of me, Rachel (Of the Rachel Made Me Do This blog) and Sydney. Unfortunately, she was not able to send it. For proof, I provide the photo to the left. Jenn Ann is in the dark ages with this phone and it sorely needs to be replaced with a Blackberry Pearl or Curve.

She needs our help and intervention now!!!! Please leave a comment in support of Jenn Ann replacing her current phone with a Blackberry.

James got his drivers license today!!!! How happy am I that on his very first trip driving solo he came to my house? And he brought a gift with him! The gift was from his classmates in English. The class has been praying for us since I was sick and then Sydney was, plus all the other things we have had going on. They decided to get us a baby gift so they got Sydney this cute outfit and they gave us a couple of gift cards too. Thanks everyone!!!!

Anyway, congratulations James on passing your drivers test! You rock, I love you!

P.S. I can't wait to get a picture of your CDL for my drivers license photo collection

Happy Birthday! I hope your day is fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Use The Flower"

A few weeks ago Jane was at our house and she was taking a close up picture of something (I don't remember what). She stated that it wasn't coming out and David said to her "Use the flower". Jane and I both responded "What?". David then proceeded to show us the flower which is on most digital cameras and should be used whenever you take a close up photo. Here's the flower:

Here's an example of two pictures. One with the flower setting one without:

How Would You Spend $25,400.00?

This week we are spending $25,400.00 on our house drainage system. Yes, you read that right. We have a major problem with our sewer pipe. (Note the pictures below) Basically, it is at least 60 years old and has completely disintegrated. No, our home owners insurance doesn't pay for this. Also, most of the problem is not even on our property, it's under the street. (Why is this our problem? Because the City of Pasadena says it is.)

How great is it that when I am actually home (all the time) we encounter this problem. Until the repair is complete we cannot use the shower, bathroom, washing machine (anything with water). Luckily, it will be all fixed by tomorrow. They had to tear up the street to fix this. If you have been to my house you will know this is no easy task (Since we live on one of the busiest streets in Pasadena) Literally, they had to shut down part of the street today (and there were 3 flagmen, Yes 3). I realize this blog is somewhat disjointed but that is what happens to your brain when you spend $25,400.00 on a pipe that isn't even located on your property.

In closing, yes, the cost is devastating. Had this happened a month ago I would have freaked but after spending last week in the hospital I am just happy to have us all alive and healthy. (Although, Sydney has a cold-we saw the doctor today, she is gonna be fine)

Jelly, Jam or Preserves?

In case you were wondering what the difference is between jelly, jam and preserves:

Jelly, jam and preserves are all made from fruit mixed with sugar and pectin. The difference between them comes in the form that the fruit takes.

In jelly, the fruit comes in the form of fruit juice.

In jam, the fruit comes in the form of fruit pulp or crushed fruit (and is less stiff than jelly as a result).

In preserves, the fruit comes in the form of chunks in a syrup or a jam.

Hospital Food

Huntington has a pretty cool thing going in their food services department. There is a menu in your room and you order it like you would order room service at a hotel. The first time you order, though you feel somewhat like a pig, that is until the food comes and you realize that these are the smallest portions of all times.

My first breakfast order (the morning after Sydney was born) included the following: (1) Cheese Omelet (2) Fresh Fruit Cup (3) Bacon (4) Toast (5) Water (6) Milk and (7) Orange Juice. Seven Items! When the food came it barely looked like anything. Super small egg with cheese on top, 3 or 4 grapes, 2 pieces of cantaloupe, 1 piece of bacon, 1 piece of toast. The orange juice and water were in those little half cups and it really didn't look like much. Anyway, the food was okay just not very much. Luckily, my diet was not restricted so I could choose from anything on the menu.

When I was readmitted to the hospital (almost exactly a week later) I was initially NPO (Nothing By Mouth) and then was moved to the low sodium/no caffeine diet. The no sodium/no caffeine diet sucks. I was denied a chocolate chip cookie for desert and then I was denied for chocolate milk. Not to mention the low sodium food choices are not as numerous as regular food. Note my last hospital meal order. (hopefully for quite awhile)

The Term Reverend

While watching the news for the Pope's trip to the United States I noticed the titles of some of the priests they were interviewing. The first one I saw was "Very Reverend", the next one was "Most Reverend". I decided this was worth a Wikipedia look up. These are some of various types of Reverends I found:

Angelican Churches:
*Deacons are referred to as "The Reverened Deacons"
*Priests are referred to as "The Reverened Father"
*Deans are reffered to as "The Very Reverened"
*Absesses and Bishops are reffered to as "The Right Reverened"
*Archbisops are reffered to as "The Most Reverened"

Catholic Churches:
*Deacons are referred to as "The Reverened Mister"
*Priests are referred to as "The Reverened Father"
*Priests with jurisdiction above pastors are referred to as "The Very Reverened"
*Absesses of Convents are reffered to as "Reverened Mother" or "Mother Superior"
*Bishops and Archbisops are reffered to as "The Most Reverened"

Protestant Churches:
*Typically use the term of Pastor rather than Reverened

2nd Hospital Visit In A Week

I must say that my first visit was definitely better than the second. Although, I stayed in the new tower with the second visit and I must say, it was slick. Nice big bathroom, HD flat screen TV, computer desk and day bed (Not bad). The first visit, consisted of having the cutest baby ever, the second visit consisted of having a low heart rate. I was admitted on Sunday night to the hospital and have just been released. Here's the deal:

All tests results have been negative. This is most likely some sort of wacky post partum thing but nobody can really tell us why my heart rate is so low. It's usually in the 70's and now it is in the 40's, my BP has also been high. I have had an echocardiogram, several ekg's, doppler ultrasound of legs, cat scan, chest x-ray, numerous lab tests and a nuclear imaging lung scan. Of all the tests, the nuclear imaging was the worst because it meant that I have had to at least temporarily stop breastfeeding Sydney and not hold her as much.

It has most definitely been an emotional couple of days and certainly not the way I was expecting to spend part of my first week as a mom. At this stage being away from her sucks. My mom and sister have been so great. We couldn't have done it without them. Sydney stayed at mom's the last two nights. My mom is right now watching all three of her grandchildren and I am about to be released from this place.

I'm not really sure if there is a real problem or not. I have a follow up with the Cardiologist scheduled. Please keep us in your prayers.

Announcing Thomas Family Photos

I have had a long internal debate with myself about how to handle sharing pictures of Sydney with family and friends. I didn't want to email them and I didn't want to turn my blog into the Sydney blog. (What's mine is mine, right?) David and I decided to launch a photo blog. This blog will be updated periodically with family photos and will be for viewing only (I have turned off comments for now) Some photos will still be shared here but the regular blog will hold most of them.

So please visit our new site at http://kim2champ.blogspot.com/

Here is a preview of what you will see there:What luck? Sydney's first Sev 1 as MOD and the email system just crashed.

Happy Birthday Jeff!

Hope you have a great birthday and that you have already paid your taxes :)

In Memory of Molly

May I Go?

May I go now?
Do you think the time is right?
May I say goodbye to pain filled days
and endless lonely nights?
I've lived my life and done my best,
an example tried to be.
So can I take that step beyond
and set my spirit free?
I didn't want to go at first,
I fought with all my might.
But something seems to draw me now
to a warm and living light.
I want to go
I really do.
It's difficult to stay.
But I will try as best I can
to live just one more day.
To give you time to care for me
and share your love and fears.
I know you're sad and afraid,
because I see your tears

Bedside Manner in ER

I overheard the following conversation this morning in the ER.

Patient's Daughter:Is he at risk for a stroke?
Doctor: He is at risk for everything
Patient: Everything?
Doctor: Heart Attack, Stroke, Diabetes, and everything else. You are in the highest risk group.
Patient's Daughter: Can we do anything else?
Doctor: Look, he's 75. The only thing you can do to make your chances worse is start smoking.

KT to David: I expect that next the doctor will hand him a gun.

Bath and Body Works OR Equate?

First off, let it be known that I hardly ever shop Walmart. I would say "never" but some smart aleck will comment that it clearly isn't true since this post is about a trip to Walmart. About a month ago my mom and I went to Walmart because I had a ton of toiletry type items to buy for Sydney and we figured it would be alot cheaper. While there, I realized I was about out of hand soap so I picked up some "Equate" hand soap that was on one of the aisle ends.

I am strictly a Bath and Body Works soap user so this brief departure was unusual. A couple of days later I realized that "Equate" was the Walmart brand name and at that point I needed to take an emergency trip to the mall and Body Bath and Body Works.

Joshua came with me and I decided to at least break my normal routine (Always Cucumber Melon or Coconut Lime Verbena) and I let Joshua choose my six anti bacterial soaps. I ended up with:

*Coconut Lime Verbena (Yes!, Way to go Joshua!)

*Exotic Coconut (Another Winner)
*Fresh Pineapple (Haven't used yet and a little too fruity if you ask me)
*Kitchen Lemon
*Cucumber Melon (Yeah!)
*Brown Sugar and Fig (Haven't smelled yet, this was almost Warm Vanilla Sugar but I did coerce him into changing to something else)

A final comment: The Equate soap wasn't bad but everytime I walked into the bathrooms I was reminded that I had just shopped at Walmart.

A final conclusion: Joshua is great at picking out anti-bacterial soaps.

A final question: Does boycotting Equate make me a snob?

I Can't Believe What I'm Hearing

Crying.............

Yahoo Growth and Development can help educate on many infant care topics. Today, I was able to learn the following:

"Crying: Newborns cry when they are hungry, tired, overstimulated, or otherwise uncomfortable. They may also cry for no apparent reason and be difficult to console."

How helpful is that?

My vote is for "no apparant reason"

She's Here!

So, yes, I am the last one to announce her arrival. Why am I late? Is it because I was too tired to blog? Nope! Is it because my life has already changed so much I haven't had any interest in blogging? Nope! It just so happens that my Verizon Wireless Broadband card has a terrible signal in the hospital and I keep getting disconnected. When I do get connected it is at modem speed....unbelievable. Anyhow, I guess this blog should not be about technical difficulties but about Sydney's arrival.

Sydney arrived yesterday, April 7th at 1:20PM. She weighed in at 7 pounds 6 ounces and was 21 1/4 inches long. Everybody that sees her comments on two things. (1) How long and beautiful her eyelashes are (2) How much hair she has.

After much debate, the official spelling of her middle name is LeeAnn. We are super excited and of course we think she is perfect. The pediatrician says she is healthy and both her and I are feeling pretty good. We go home tomorrow.

For those that want the labor details here is the summary:
*Contractions started around 8:00PM on the 5th and varied between 2-20 minutes apart.
*The labor was back labor and it hurt pretty bad
*On the 7th at 3:30 AM we arrived at the hospital, dilated at 4. By 4:30 I had the epidural and from that moment we had no more pain. (Yeah!)
*At around 1:00PM I started pushing and she popped out 20 minutes later.
*Overall, everything went very well. I have no complaints. (Yes, you read that right)

P.S. Thanks for the great pic, Rachel!

BTW: The Last Poll Results were as follows:

C Section Birth Prediction-20 Votes or 68%
Normal Birth Prediction-9 Votes or 31%

Well, It's The 4th (A PG Update)

Sydney's due date has come and gone......and no, she has not arrived.

Here are the results of the "How much will Sydney weigh" poll:

6.0-6.5 lbs- 7 Votes or 18%
6.5-7.0 lbs- 11 Votes or 28%
7.0-7.5 lbs- 15 Votes or 39%
Over 7.5 lbs- 5 Votes or 13%

I went to the doctor yesterday and he basically said that she is not ready to come out. He also said that the shape of my pelvis (apparently, it's narrow-who knew?) will make it more difficult to get her out......nice. So, he has decided that we should wait until next Wednesday (the 9th) and see what type of progress has been made. (I didn't get the feeling that he had high expectations that alot of progress would be made but he wanted to "try") If not much progress has been made we have been scheduled for a c-section on Thursday, (the 10th) at 5:30PM.

BTW: There is a new pg poll.

P.S.: I am dying to know who in FSO guessed closest to 5:30PM on Thursday the 10th.

Ex Wife Gets Half

This farmer was ordered to give his ex-wife half of everything. They divorced after 45 years of marriage. He was willing to give her half the earnings but got really mad when he found out he needed to give her 1/2 of the tools on their farm. He solved the problem by purchasing a grinder and cutting all of the farm equipment in half. The equipment cut in half included a cattle scale.

Starbucks Is Changing Their Logo

You heard it here first! Starbucks is changing their logo back to their original logo. The original logo was used from 1971-1987 and is brown. I am not a huge fan of the brown logo and I am definitely not a huge fan of the full mermaid. Am I just reluctant to change? I don't think so, in my opinion the newer logo is definitely better. Oh well, I will still go and get my Iced Chai but life will never be the same again.

Anyhow, you can look for the new cups that feature the old logo to show up soon at a Starbucks near you.

"The Meeps" On The Bachelor

I seriously hope everybody can see this video. On this weeks episode of The Bachelor this girl "Amanda" got what they called "The Meeps". When she gets nervous she makes this sound that is similar to hiccups but it is super loud and goes "Meep". Hysterical. I had to look it up on you tube to bring to you all. "The Meeps"

Dinner At El Torito

Even though I was tired, tonight when David suggested we go to El Torito for dinner, I jumped at the idea. I wasn't excited because I would soon be eating my favorite chicken flautas, I was excited because I would be getting a second condiment container to take home.

I'll explain, whenever we go to El Torito I order the chicken flautas. They are really good! I usually eat three of them and then take home 3. The flautas are delicious but the red pepper dip (recipe found here) completes them. When taking my 3 home, I find that in the to-go container the flautas roll around in the red pepper dip which causes two problems for me. (1) Makes the flautas soggy (2) wastes the dip. So, last time we went, I decided to just take the little container with the red pepper dip in it. (David wasn't happy) I found that keeping the pepper dip in the little container solved both of my problems and the little container can then be used for holding other types of condiments as well.

So after dinner tonight, I now have two of these containers and some great chicken flautas and red pepper dip to have for lunch tomorrow. Yummy!

Off For 3 Months (Sort of)

Before I get too deep into this blog let me say that I realize that I will not be "off" and doing my own thing with no responsibilities for the next 3 months. I get it, I'll be taking care of a baby. With that disclaimer, let me get to the meat of this blog:

Today was weird. When you go on vacation there is tons of stuff that you don't hand off because it can wait, when you are going to be gone for 3 months things just can't wait that long. For the last month I have spent my time finishing up every outstanding project, issue, phone call that I owed and all other items that required my action. At the end of today I had no Peoplesoft worklist items, ZERO emails in my inbox, no outstanding Outlook tasks.

I left the office feeling great! I feel confident that everything that could have been finished, has been. I also feel really grateful that I work with such great people who always take care of business whether I am there or not. You all rock! Thanks for giving me the peace of mind that I can be off and not have to worry!!!! You're the best!

Week 39: A PG Update

Here are the results of the "When Will Sydney Be Born?" poll:

Before March 22nd: 5 Votes or 10%
March 22nd-24th: 3 Votes or 6%
March 25th-31st: 14 Votes or 29%
April 1st-April 7th: 25 Votes or 53%

Judging from my trip to the doctor today the date will probably be after April 7th.....I didn't include that as an option because I didn't think we would ever be in that position. I am used to being early, not late!!!!!

I hit my goal weight this week. It's unfortunate that I will probably pile on a few more pounds before this is over but since I am overall doing pretty well, I won't complain.

Friday is my last day at work. I will not be back until 7/7 and I will not be checking work email :)

By request: there is a new PG poll

Panicky Pam

It seems that the City of Pasadena thinks they can steal their sense of humor from David. Their latest water saving campaign could have been written by my husband. David has long referred to me as "Panicky Pam", since I have a tendency to sometimes panic. He also uses "Starvin Marvin" quite frequently and occasionally he will come up with others. Examples like: Sweaty Sam, Cheap Charlie, Dramatic Diane etc.

Now that you have that background. Here are a couple of the signs that I have recently seen around town:

In case you can't read these they say: Long Shower Larry and Lawn Soaker Lana.
P.S. It is an absolute coincidence that Queen B decided to be Nancy Negative yesterday.

The Labeling System

On my very first visit to Jane's house I discovered the "Labeling System" and after laughing, I took a picture of it. On the second visit I discovered the extent that the labeling system was used and then I promptly took a picture of it.

Today, I found someone who appreciates their labeling system just as much. Visit this

blog, entitled "Ode To My Labeler" and be sure to leave her a comment!

Drink Yakult?

Background: Yakult is a health drink and the commercial bragged that over 25 million people drink it everyday. A few weeks ago I saw this commercial for Yakult. The commercial baffled me, than made me laugh than took me back to being baffled.

Baffling-I asked several people (many who I would consider very healthy) if they drank Yakult. Every person I asked responded the same way: "What is that?"

Laughing-I was amazed by the size of the "little" Yakult drinks. These pictures I took illustrate the "little" drinks, they are so funny!

Baffling and Laughing-Without any other explanation the commercial states the following "One little bottle of Yakult contains more than 8 billion Lactobacillus casei Shirota". Now, when I heard this I thought, what in the world is that and I why in the world would I want it? I played the commercial for David and he had the same reaction. What in the world is Lactobacillius Casei Shirota?

Additional Information-Further note, that there are two versions of this commercial. In the other commercial it replaces the "8 billion Lactobacillius casei Shirota" with something like "good bacteria" (I don't remember the exact words on the other version).

KT's Question-I wonder how they choose which version of the commercial to play? Do you think they play the "8 billion Lactobacillius casei Shirota" version during Jeopardy and the "Good Bacteria" verison during the Nascar race?
