How great is it that when I am actually home (all the time) we encounter this problem. Until the repair is complete we cannot use the shower, bathroom, washing machine (anything with water). Luckily, it will be all fixed by tomorrow. They had to tear up the street to fix this. If you have been to my house you will know this is no easy task (Since we live on one of the busiest streets in Pasadena) Literally, they had to shut down part of the street today (and there were 3 flagmen, Yes 3). I realize this blog is somewhat disjointed but that is what happens to your brain when you spend $25,400.00 on a pipe that isn't even located on your property.
In closing, yes, the cost is devastating. Had this happened a month ago I would have freaked but after spending last week in the hospital I am just happy to have us all alive and healthy. (Although, Sydney has a cold-we saw the doctor today, she is gonna be fine)

Sadness. The pictures prove this really is as bad as Rachel said it was. At least you have an excuse to hang out at Starbucks! :)
Glad Sydney is ok!
Uuugh, I smell a rat with the city of Pasadena and/or your HOI company. I seriously think they have some responsibility in all this. At least you are getting it handled, but boy does that suck!! I could think of some real fun ways to spend 25 grand, and not one of them is on a pipe that the city should be paying for or HOI should be covering!! The blessing is that you are ok and the Syd-Meister is going to be A-ok!
2 things:
1-I know what you are doing with your economic stimulus plan money.
2-And I thought my new loan for my car was bad!
As hard as I have tried to find a funny comment I just cant. I stick with my first thoughts.
Oh shit!
holy crap that sucks. i guess it's a little late... but did you get a few estimates... we replumbed our house a while back and i was amazed the difference b/w companies... 14k-7k ... it's a big difference for the same work...
Don't you just love dealing with the city. FYI-It is ALWAYS your problem. We had a CITY tree messing up our pipes at our last house. After a few hundred on plumbers and called the city and they said that it was our problem. THEN, when we moved 6 blocks away and wanted to take out another pipe destroying tree, they said that we couldn't because that was a city tree. GO FIGURE! I would seriously cry if I had to come up with that much money! I hope Sydney gets better quickly!
WOW WOW WOW... $24.5K for a sewer system... attached to a trailer... in a trailer park... didn't think PVC could get that expensive!
ugh, that is AWFUL!
I will trump Jane and find slight humor in the fact that you get to have three flagman dedicated to your house, since that's the job my dad wanted when he was a kid.
But... since spending money is never anything I laugh at, I'm sorry :(
Wow. I can't believe the city isn't doing that. I'd be calling the mayor's office daily, at least until I got a sufficient answer on why I'm paying for it. Send a Letter to the Editor of your local paper and see if that gets the attention of anyone who can do something about it.
OMG! This is terrible!
Kim: Do those 5 trash cans belong to your crazy neighbor? And did you ever find out why they need so many trash cans???
ouch. OUCH! I can't believe how calm you sound!
Unbelievable cost! It must have been for the personal flag men. I spent $5,0000 in Santa Barbara installing PVC from the house to the street. The piping was clay, so they where able to pull the piping through the existing. Don’t know if this will make you feel any better, but at home I spent $15,000 for a new leech field 3 years ago. Now the city is putting in a new sewer system this year and next. The just the permit was $4,300.Hook up will cost around $12,000 to $15,000! I’am going to ask for some time off to dig my own hole.
BTW – Your new baby is beautiful. Congratulations.
Bruce Henry
I'm so sorry for that horrible expense! Having children puts everything into perspective, though, doesn't it? Almost losing Matt three years ago has totally changed my perspective on life, and it's very much for the better.
